El Camaleon, Green Golf in Cancun

Although pretty to look at, golf courses have to date been a little, shall we say, unfriendly to the environment. The perfectly manicured greens and surroundings come at a cost including the use of chemical fertilizers and large amounts of water.

Fairmont Hotels has been leading the way when it comes to sustainability with its green policies and practices and has also implemented such policies for its golf courses such as the Greening our Greens initiative. The El Camaleon Golf Course in Cancun Mexico, pictured above is a perfect example of the success they’ve had with their initiative.

El Camaleon is only the second golf course in Mexico to receive certification as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Designed by Greg Norman, it has quickly become one of the most talked about golf courses in Mexico as it weaves its way through three distinct ecosystems – jungle, dense mangrove and stunning, oceanfront stretches of sand providing both esthetic appeal and a challenging environment. The perfect venue for a memorable golf experience.
